What

The Plot

What do I pray about?

In a nutshell, I pray about the struggles that I know so many post-adoptive parents are facing on a daily, hourly, minute to minute basis.  Below are some situations that I know are very real for countless of us who have fostered and/or adopted children. Do you recognize yourself in these statements? If so, you have come to the right place, and I am so glad you're here. These are just some of the things I pray about. These are the places where God wants to meet us. These are some of the struggles that God may use to sift us like wheat..

You may be depressed.
You may be struggling to attach/bond with your child.
You may not like/love your child (yet).
You may be exhausted physically, mentally and/or emotionally.
You may doubt that you did the right thing in bringing your child home.
You may grieve for your former life.
There may be financial strain.
You may be angry and/or bitter towards God.
You may be overwhelmed with life.
You may feel defeated/like giving up.
You may feel like a failure.
You may feel desperate.
You may feel like you're drowning...suffocating...being crushed.
You may feel alone...misunderstood...isolated.
You may be discouraged.
You may have unsupportive friends...family...church.
There may be marital stress.
You may feel guilty and/or ashamed for everything you're thinking and feeling.
You may be resentful.
You may be jealous of friends with typical children.
You may be confused because this is not how you thought it would be.
You may be afraid to share your new reality with friends and family.
You may think about running away.
You may be tempted to disrupt/dissolve the adoption.
You may feel inadequate.
You may feel hopeless.

The list goes on.

I pray for peace and calm and love in our families. I pray for healing. I pray for endurance as we each run the race God has chosen for us. I pray that He encourages, comforts and ministers to each of us. I pray for strength. I pray for JOY and contentment for each of us.  I pray that we are each filled with the fruit of the Spirit.  I pray that we each remember that we are never alone.  I pray...

Matthew 28:20 - I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
